COMMUNITY CYBER CRIME ALERT |
||
|
Residents are being reminded to stay vigilant against cyber criminals who continue to target people through phishing emails, text messages, social media scams, and fraudulent phone calls. Criminals often pretend to be trusted organisations such as banks, delivery companies, HMRC, the NHS, or the police to obtain personal information, passwords, or bank details. They may create a sense of urgency to pressure you into acting quickly. How to Protect Yourself:✅ Never share passwords, PINs, or online banking details with anyone. ✅ Be cautious of unexpected emails, texts, or calls asking for personal information. ✅ Check website addresses carefully before entering sensitive information. ✅ Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on your online accounts where possible. ✅ Keep your devices updated with the latest security software. ✅ If something doesn't feel right, stop and verify directly with the organisation using trusted contact details. If You Think You've Been Targeted:📞 Contact your bank immediately if financial information has been compromised. 💻 Report cyber crime and fraud to Action Fraud at www.actionfraud.police.uk or call 0300 123 2040. 🚔 If a crime is in progress or there is an immediate threat, call 999. Working together, we can help protect ourselves, our families, and our community from cyber crime. Royton & Shaw Neighbourhood Policing Team | ||
